Nowadays its like every business has an online presence, Yet we only hear about a few of them, when they do something new and interesting activities. So why is it like that? How come only a handful among a million businesses catch our eyeballs?
What is a social media strategy?
It's a written document that is basically a road map on how your organisation will use various social media networks.
This is the document where you set your organisation's goals, you select your target audience and map out a guideline on the activities you want to perform in relevance to your objectives.
Why is social media strategy important?
Helps in discovering priorities
First of all, because this helps you in classification of your organisation priorities you can perform your tasks much more efficiently if you are aware of what you want to achieve i.e; your end goal
- Helps in planning campaigns.
Once you’re clear as to what your priorities are, you can map out more effective campaigns. Social media strategy helps in focusing on more impactful and results driven campaign plans.
- Increases collaboration between departments.
When you have a clear vision as to what you want to achieve, departments of your organisation can focus on one aspect and drive more favourable results. Rather than trying everything in a chaotic manner, departments can now collaborate towards the common objectives.
How to map out an effective strategy?
For an effective social media marketing strategy, your strategy documents must be comprised of actionable and strategic goals.
•What are strategic goals?
Strategic goals are the mile stones we want to achieve.
A strategic goal is considered good when:
⁃ It is meaningful.
⁃ Easily understood.
⁃ Measurable in results.
Examples of strategic goal are
⁃ Improving customer engagement.
⁃ Generating more leads.
⁃ Growing sales.
⁃ Increasing traffic.
⁃ Expanding reach.
Types of strategic goals.
Mainly there are two types of strategic goals
1. Ongoing goals.
These goals are long term and define the overall focus and objective that we want to achieve.
Eg.:- A small business targeting to achieve 40K likes in 8 months.
2.Campaign goals.
These are short term goals and directly relate to a particular initiative or campaigns.
Eg.:- The same small businesses want 2500 likes in the first two weeks.
Outline your strategic goals to use a mix of social media platforms and not over-committing yourself on a single channel.
